Boundaries with Socials

This is a pretty recent change I began sometime last year to use my time more intentionally on social media..

I don’t care too much to see too many povs of life from people I am not the closest with.. so most people I keep muted. I then try and follow accounts that inspire or encourage me and those pages are the only stories I watch many, many days (aside from those I know and am close to in real life).

But—I do like to reciprocate energy which is why I only ever interact with those who interact with me. The days of being a loyal liker or commenter to one that doesn’t do the same for me are long gone. Thank you @IG for the mute posts/ stories feature!

If I don’t have a story, I likely won’t watch a single story either other than the creators I mentioned earlier.. However, if I do have one, I sometimes check my story viewers to then view their stories as a way to keep it reciprocal but then I realize- it’s still unbalanced because I have a natural tendency to want to interact with what I see / cheer people on.

I stopped doing that and dropped looking at story viewers altogether. All I know that views my stories are those that interact with it; and those people are not only unmuted but also on my “favorites” because I want to show love to those who show love to me- online and in real life.

They’re added to the favorites because some days I genuinely am not watching stories to avoid the risk of being too distracted of a person to get anything productive done.

I will still cheer my people on like they do for me and honor what a social media app was initially intended for.. 😊
